Could Brian Callahan's Firing Unleash a Hidden Firepower in Cam Ward and the Titans' Offense?

Well, here we go — the Tennessee Titans hit a massive speed bump to start the 2025 NFL season, limping into Week 7 with a discouraging 1-5 record and then pulling the plug on head coach Brian Callahan. It wasn’t exactly a surprise given his two-year stint yielded a grim 4-19 record, but man, the ramifications ripple far beyond just the sidelines. The fantasy football world is already buzzing, and savvy analysts Matt Harmon and Justin Boone dive into what this upheaval means down the stretch on the latest Yahoo Fantasy Forecast podcast. Expectation was sky-high after the Titans snagged first overall pick quarterback Cam Ward, bolstered their offensive line, and hoped to lift guys like Calvin Ridley and Chig Okonkwo into new orbit. Instead, the offense floundered near the bottom of the league in points and yards per game. Even RB Tony Pollard, fresh off a 1,000-yard season, turned out to be a letdown, and while rookies Elic Ayomanor and Tyjae Spears might catch some scraps, don’t hold your breath for fantasy gold. Harmon and Boone aren’t just skeptical—they’re downright pessimistic about Tennessee’s roster talent and the trajectory under interim coach Mike McCoy. This shakeup could very well stunt Ward’s promising development and make the rest of 2025 a bumpy, rough ride for Titans fans and fantasy players alike. LEARN MORE

After starting the 2025 NFL season 1-5, the Tennessee Titans made a significant move to start Week 7, firing head coach Brian Callahan. He’ll finish his tenure in Tennessee with a combined record of 4-19 over the span of two seasons. With this move, there are obvious fantasy football implications. Matt Harmon and Justin Boone break things down on the latest episode of The Yahoo Fantasy Forecast podcast.

Entering Week 7, the Titans offense ranks 31st in points per game (13.8) and 32nd in yards per game (232.3). There were some expectations of an improvement this season after drafting QB Cam Ward first overall in 2025. The team tried to shore up the offensive line and figured Ward would elevate the play of receiver Calvin Ridley and tight end Chig Okonkwo. Things haven’t worked out and Boone now believes that there simply isn’t any value left on Tennessee for fantasy purposes.

RB Tony Pollard was brought in a season ago and is coming off over 1,000 rushing yards in 2024. He’s been a disappointment so far this season and the best-case scenario for him, according to Boone, may be that the back is traded before the deadline. Rookie WR Elic Ayomanor and pass-catching back Tyjae Spears may get a boost but neither is a reliable fantasy asset.

Harmon just doesn’t see this as a very talented roster and both agree that things aren’t going to get better this season with Callahan gone and Mike McCoy taking over as interim head coach. This could stunt the development of Ward as a QB and this could be rough the rest of the way.
