The Seattle Seahawks entered 2025 with high expectations for wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba following his strong finish to the previous season.

Through five games, he has exceeded even the most optimistic projections. Smith-Njigba leads Seattle with 34 catches on 43 targets for 534 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 15.7 yards per reception.

His consistency has been remarkable, with 90 yards representing his lowest single-game total this season.

Recent metrics shared by Chris O’Brien highlight the pace Smith-Njigba has maintained through the early weeks.

“Jaxon Smith-Njigba is on pace for over 1800 yards this season. 90 yards is his lowest total through 5 games this season. So consistent, so good,” O’Brien shared.

He currently ranks second in the NFL in receiving yards, trailing only Puka Nacua’s 588 despite having 18 fewer receptions and 19 fewer targets than the Rams standout.

Smith-Njigba has clearly established himself as Sam Darnold’s primary target and one of the league’s top receivers.

His ascent follows a modest rookie campaign, as he began showing his true potential during the latter half of 2024.

The Seahawks responded by designating him their unquestioned number one receiver, parting ways with DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett to clear the path.

Through consistent performance, Smith-Njigba has justified that decision and exceeded expectations.

The Seahawks, once viewed as rebuilding, now possess a top offensive weapon capable of elevating their passing game.

Much depends on Seattle’s offensive line development and Darnold’s continued consistency, but Smith-Njigba’s impact has placed them firmly in playoff contention and within striking distance of the NFC West title.
