Could Jim Bob Cooter's Arrival as Giants Coordinator Ignite an Unexpected Offensive Revolution?

The New York Giants find themselves on a familiar crossroads, chasing the perfect fit to fill their offensive coordinator vacancy. After hopes to snag Todd Monken fizzled when he took the Cleveland Browns’ head coaching gig, the Giants are digging deeper with Plan B, setting their sights on Jim Bob Cooter, the Colts’ seasoned offensive mind. At 41, Cooter’s NFL journey spans multiple teams and roles, crafting a résumé rich with experience that Giants’ head coach John Harbaugh surely finds appealing. Cooter’s stint as Lions’ offensive coordinator and his recent years with Indianapolis add compelling layers to his candidacy, especially as he seeks a play-calling role not currently in his hands in Indy. Meanwhile, another contender, ex-Giants quarterback and Broncos coach Davis Webb, is also in the mix. This next chapter in the Giants’ hunt promises intriguing developments and could signal a strategic pivot in their offensive philosophy. LEARN MORE

The New York Giants will meet with Indianapolis Colts’ offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter about their vacant coordinator position, according to ESPN NFL insider Peter Schrager.

Giants head coach John Harbaugh had, of course, hoped to hire Todd Monken for the job. Monken, though, accepted a job as head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

Cooter is the second known interview request by the Giants as they move on to Plan B in their hunt for an offensive coordinator. The other was with Denver Broncos quarterbacks coach and two-time Giants backup quarterback Davis Webb.

Cooter, 41, has been coaching in the NFL since he became an offensive assistant with the Colts in 2009 at the age of 25. He has worked for the Colts twice, Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Cooter was offensive coordinator for the Lions from 2016-2018 and has been in that role for Indianapolis the past three seasons.

Cooter has already interviewed twice for the offensive coordinator vacancy with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Cooter called plays when he was offensive coordinator of the Lions, but head coach Shane Steichen handles that responsibility with Indianapolis. So, the Giants and Eagles jobs offer him something he doesn’t currently have.
