Dabo Swinney Doubles Down on Controversial Political Views Despite Backlash—What’s Really Behind His Defiance?
Back in 2023, Donald Trump announced that he was attending the Clemson vs. South Carolina rivalry game. Many wanted Swinney to take a strong stance on whether or not Trump should be allowed to attend.
But Swinney made his thoughts clear, refusing to apologize for them.
“I don’t care who comes to the game,” he said. “I just care about who’s playing in the game. Unless (South Carolina coach Shane Beamer) is going to put him in and throw him a halfback pass or something.”
Swinney previously chose to visit the White House following national title wins in 2016 and ’18.
