Deion Sanders Slams Colorado's Past Choice: A Game-Changing Revelation
Here’s a short introduction for the article:
In the world of college football, where legends are made and careers can be fleeting, the recognition of greatness often comes with a peculiar sense of timing—or rather, a lack thereof. Deion Sanders, the iconic figure known as “Coach Prime,” has always had a flair for the dramatic both on and off the field. This time, however, his passion is not for the game but for giving respect where it’s long overdue. I’ve seen many a coach come and go, and let me tell you, there’s something about Prime’s determination that just might change how we think about honoring our sports heroes… LEARN MORE.
A lot was made of Colorado’s decision to retire Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter’s numbers so soon after the conclusion of their college careers. But Deion Sanders has made it clear that he wants the school to give its legends their flowers while they can still smell them.
This past weekend, the Buffs announced that they would be unveiling a new statue of former head coach Bill McCartney at the end of next season. But unfortunately he won’t be there to see it after passing away in early January.
That bothers Coach Prime, who gave an impassioned quote to the media about how he really feels about the university waiting so long to honor the man who brought CU its lone national title.
“I’m gonna try not to get in trouble with what I’m about to say,” Sanders began. “… Why we waiting, man? Why we wait? Wouldn’t we have wanted him to see? To be involved in it. To feel it. To feel the love, the respect, the appreciation. Why we wait? See that’s the kind of junk that you gotta run with. Say something about that. He can’t enjoy that right now.”
When it was pointed out that McCartney’s statue had been two years in the making, Deion said that simply wasn’t good enough.
“Making? How we in the making? This is the new generation. Everything y’all want, you want it right now. And you go get it right now,” Sanders explained. “You don’t wait for nothing no more, do we? We wanna go, we call Uber. We wanna eat, who we call? UberEats? Everything we get is right now. We want something, we order it off Amazon, right now. We ain’t in no waiting generation no more. That’s over. That’s a wrap on that.”
“Everybody in here is impatient. You’re downloading stuff right now and putting it out, as I speak,” the Hall of Famer continued. “This ain’t that no more. Let’s stop. And I’m saying it because I want him to see that. He can’t see that. Same thing with Rashaan Salaam, right? How long did we wait? How many years after his death? So we gotta die to get recognized?”
“Give people the flowers while they can enjoy ’em and they can smell ’em,” Sanders concluded. “That’s how I get down. You guys are doing a good job, I always say you guys are doing a good job right now. I don’t wait. I’m not built like that.”
