ESPN’s First Football Power Index Rankings Drop — Which Surprising Team Cracked the Top 5?
On Tuesday, ESPN’s Football Power Index computer model (FPI) shared an update that ranks all of the teams heading into the 2025 season.
Last year Ohio State overcame two regular season losses to enter the College Football Playoff as an at-large bid before going on a tear and winning the national title. But in the ensuing offseason, the Buckeyes lost several key players that won them the title. As a result, Ohio State are not the top-ranked team – or even in the top-three.
The top spot actually belongs to the Texas Longhorns, who have hype to the moon thanks to third-year quarterback and Manning family scion Arch Manning. Just behind them are the ever-popular Georgia and Alabama. Behind the Buckeyes are a pair of Big Ten rivals in Penn State and Oregon.
