ESPN’s First Football Power Index Rankings Drop — Which Surprising Team Cracked the Top 5?
Based on this ranking, the 12 teams to qualify for the 2025-26 College Football Playoff would probably look something like this:
- Texas (conference champion, bye)
- Ohio State (conference champion, bye)
- Miami (conference champion, bye)
- Kansas State (conference champion, bye)
- Georgia
- Alabama
- Penn State
- Oregon
- Notre Dame
- Texas A&M
- Tennessee
- Tulane
The obvious standout in that ranking is Tulane, which ranks 36th in the power rankings right now. Under the current format, they would be the fifth and final conference champion to automatically qualify and would have to take on Georgia in Athens to mark their CFP debut.
