Giants Demand Shocking Shift in Jaxson Dart’s Running Style Following Mysterious Concussion Incident
Watching Jaxson Dart zip around the field with that electric dual-threat flair has been one of the rare bright spots for the struggling New York Giants this season . Yet, as thrilling as his running style is, the team’s urging him to tweak his approach—prioritizing smart escapes over reckless dives to prolong his time on the gridiron . A recent concussion sidelined Dart, shaking the Giants’ momentum and spotlighting the risk that comes with every daring scramble . Coaches are now showing him alternative ways to gain yards without taking brutal hits, stressing that a few extra yards aren’t worth missing entire games . As this rookie sensation aims for Rookie of the Year glory, the paramount goal isn’t just flashy runs—it’s staying healthy and on the field for the long haul .
The New York Giants still want star rookie Jaxson Dart to show off his rushing ability, they just want him to be smarter about avoiding contact. With Dart sidelined due to a concussion, the Giants are reportedly urging the rookie to alter the way he runs, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Those inside and outside the organization have talked to Dart about being more careful when he runs the ball, per Schefter. The team has told Dart gaining extra yards running the ball is not worth it if it’s going to lead to him missing time. Giants quarterback coach has shown Dart clips of other quarterback runs this season, trying to stress the difference between being aggressive and avoiding big hits.

Dart sustained a concussion during the Giants’ 24-20 loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 10. That proved to be the turning point in the game, as the Giants led with Dart under center. Russell Wilson came on in relief of Dart and was unable to get the Giants offense moving. The injury coincided with Bears quarterback Caleb Williams finally finding his stride, leading to another late Bears comeback.
Dart was unable to clear the league’s concussion protocol, and will miss Week 11 due to the issue. Jameis Winston is expected to start when the Giants take on the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
While Week 10 marked Dart’s first diagnosed concussion this season, he’s been evaluated multiple times in his rookie season. Dart has undergone four concussion tests since the preseason, per Schefter. One of those led to multiple fines after former head coach Brian Daboll and rookie Cam Skattebo entered the blue medical tent to check on Dart after he briefly left Week 6 due to a head injury. Dart was cleared and able to return to that contest, which the Giants won.

Dart has been one of the Giants’ few brights spots in 2025. While the team is just 2-8, Dart has looked like a potential future star. Through nine games — seven starts — Dart has 10 passing touchdowns against three interceptions. He’s proved to be an adept runner as well, picking up 317 yards and seven scores as a rusher.
Dart’s dual-threat ability has made him one of the most exciting rookies in the NFL this season, and a major threat to win the Rookie of the Year award. But the only way Dart will take home that honor is if he stays on the field.
