Kansas City started strong Monday night, dominating early before their second-half mistakes changed everything.

The Chiefs carried a 14-7 lead into halftime but committed 10 penalties after the break, giving Jacksonville first downs, improved field position, and easy scoring opportunities for Trevor Lawrence.

Those miscues proved costly as the Jaguars rallied to hand Kansas City a frustrating defeat that dropped them to 2-3 on the season.

The loss ended a remarkable streak for the Chiefs under Patrick Mahomes.

Since 2018, Kansas City had led by at least two touchdowns 66 times, including playoffs, but lost that advantage only four times before Monday night.

Kansas City entered Monday with a 62-4 record in games where Mahomes led by 14 or more points.

Their four previous losses came in notable matchups spread across recent seasons.

They fell 34-31 at Cincinnati on January 2, 2022, then lost 27-24 in overtime at home against the Bengals in the AFC Championship later that month.

Going back further, they suffered a 31-24 home defeat to Houston on October 13, 2019, and narrowly lost 29-28 at home to the Chargers on December 13, 2018.
