The Fighting Irish continue to refuse to join a conference. The Big Ten – or the ACC or the SEC – would likely gladly take the Fighting Irish as a full-time conference member. However, Notre Dame still has a big TV deal as an independent with NBC. And, the Fighting Irish have a consistent path to the College Football Playoff without being in a conference.
So, why join one?
Well, for one, it would make things more fair. Schools like Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon, Georgia, etc. are playing multiple College Football Playoff frontrunners a season.
