After playing on Russia’s Hlinka Gretzky team four summers ago, But played to a point-per-game level in the MHL as one of its top 2005s four seasons ago and then began his draft year three seasons ago on a tear in the MHL, scoring 11 goals in his first 15 games of the season before earning a mid-October promotion to the KHL for the first time (he then scored his first two pro goals and bounced between the KHL and MHL). Two seasons ago, playing as a regular in the KHL with Lokomotiv, But broke 10 goals and 20 points despite playing very limited minutes (under 10 per game). Last season, those minutes rose about 12 on average, and he won a KHL title playing a reduced role in the playoffs (6-7 minutes per game).
