Insider Reveals Shocking Twist in Austin Reaves' Lakers Future—What It Means for the Team's Destiny

So here’s a burning question for you: When a player like Austin Reaves lights up the court with his best season yet, rocking 20.2 points, 4.5 boards, and nearly six assists a night, does destiny whisper “stay or stray”? The chatter around the Los Angeles Lakers’ rising star is deafening—will he bolt for greener pastures or plant his roots deep in purple and gold? Now, according to trusted Lakers insider Jovan Buha, Reaves isn’t just passing through; he genuinely wants to be a Laker for life. But we all know the NBA isn’t run on dreams alone — cash talks, and the Lakers must pull out all the stops to lock him down with a fat contract. So, as Reaves gears up for that crucial 2025-26 season and his looming player option, one can’t help but wonder: will his loyalty trump the allure of a lucrative payday elsewhere, or will Los Angeles rise to the occasion and keep their gem shining bright on the same hardwood where he just made us believers?

The better Austin Reaves gets, the more speculation about his future with the Los Angeles Lakers grows.

He just had his best season yet for the Lakers, so, of course, people are talking about him leaving the team in the future.

But according to Lakers insider Jovan Buha, Reaves doesn’t want to go anywhere and hopes to remain with the team for the rest of his career.

“He wants to be a Laker for life,” Buha said of Reaves, via Legion Hoops.

Reaves just produced 20.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.8 assists on 46.0 percent from the field and 37.7 percent from the three-point line in the 2024-25 season.

This was his fourth year in the league and with the Lakers, and he became a reliable and proven third option for the team behind Luka Doncic and LeBron James.

A lot of people can see him as a part of the team for years to come, but that means LA will need to pay him.

He has one more season before he has to choose or decline a player option.

With the way he’s been playing, there is little doubt that he will decline his option so he can get a better deal.

But that doesn’t mean he will leave the Lakers, because they can provide him with a healthy and big new contract.

Reaves wants to stay in Los Angeles, and the Lakers hope to keep him.

That’s possible, but LA will need to give him a large contract.

He is earning it now, but will need to keep playing well in 2025-26 in order to bring home a hefty paycheck that keeps him with the Lakers for years.
