“Insider Secrets: College Football Players Consider Bold Move to Skip Playoffs Over Controversial Issues”
Tennessee’s starting quarterback entered the transfer portal amid a contract dispute with the program. Iamaleava skipped Friday’s spring practice while reportedly seeking to bolster his $2.4 million deal to $4 million.
He reportedly considered pressuring contract talks sooner. According to CBS Sports analyst Josh Pate, Iamaleava and other players threatened to sit out College Football Playoff games when attempting to renegotiate their NIL deals.
“This stuff was happening last December,” Pate said on his Josh Pate’s College Football Show. “During the playoffs. With [Iamaleava] included, but not just this kid. They were trying to get more money out of Tennessee, and other players on playoff teams were trying to get more money out of playoff teams before the playoff games. They were trying to leverage playoff participation.”
Pate claimed representatives argued players should receive more money for additional playoff games extending beyond their original NIL agreement. However, he didn’t name anyone else or explain how it occurred behind the scenes.
