Insider Warning: What the Steelers’ Biggest Threat Could Mean for Their Future

Pittsburgh Steelers fans, ever wonder how a team that once prided itself on suffocating defenses could now be practically handing out completions like candy on Halloween? Watching the Steelers’ Week 8 stumble against the Green Bay Packers had me scratching my head—and trust me, it wasn’t just Aaron Rodgers dazzling under the lights. The defense, once the steel curtain itself, has started to leak, and not just a little. When Jordan Love rips off 20 straight completions, it’s more than a bad day at the office—it’s a glaring symptom of a pass defense that’s become downright porous. And here we are, with the Steelers still sitting atop the AFC North, but facing an uphill battle: can this struggling defense tighten up before the Colts’ offense knocks on their door in Week 9? Let’s dive into what’s really going on behind the scenes before the curtain falls on this season’s act.

The Pittsburgh Steelers used to have one of the best defenses in the NFL.

For years, they took care of business, winning ugly games and low-scoring matchups.

That’s not the case anymore.

While quarterback Aaron Rodgers has turned back the clock and played well this season, the defense isn’t holding up its end of the bargain.

After another poor performance in a Week 8 loss to the Green Bay Packers, analyst Jason McIntyre pointed out one area that is struggling in particular.

“The Steelers have one of the worst pass defenses in the league. It is abysmal … Jordan Love at one point peeled off 20 straight completions,” McIntyre said.

Love became the fourth QB in a row to throw for a season-high in passing yards against them, a list that includes Carson Wentz, Dillon Gabriel and Joe Flacco.

They also made Justin Fields look like a star for the New York Jets in the season opener.

Despite all of that, the Steelers are atop the AFC North.

But the Cincinnati Bengals’ offense looks better now that Flacco is there, and Lamar Jackson will return from injury for the Baltimore Ravens.

Also, the Steelers must deal with Daniel Jones and the red-hot Indianapolis Colts in Week 9.

Facing the best offense in the NFL definitely isn’t an ideal situation for a struggling pass defense to get it together.

Unless the Steelers make some adjustments, that game could get ugly fast.
