Is Brian Scalabrine Uncovering a Hidden Problem Threatening the Hawks' Season?

The 2025-26 season lands on the Atlanta Hawks like a high-stakes riddle wrapped in a basketball jersey. Fans aren’t just clutching their popcorn—they’re itching for answers. Can Trae Young, weaving his magic for years, finally strike gold playing alongside a “pick and pop big” like Kristaps Porzingis? Brian Scalabrine’s question slices through the buzz: does the Hawks’ roster truly fit together, or are we watching a house of cards teeter on the edge? This year isn’t just another page in the playbook — it’s potentially Trae’s make-or-break moment. Will the Hawks soar into a bright future, or is this the last dance before the curtain falls? Grab your seat, because the drama’s only just beginning.

The 2025-26 season will be a very consequential one for the Atlanta Hawks.

There are a lot of questions swirling around the team, and the fans are demanding answers.

Speaking on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Brian Scalabrine said it will be a chance to see what Trae Young can do alongside a “pick and pop big” like Kristaps Porzingis.

“Does the team around [Trae Young] fit? He’s never played with a pick and pop big. Now, he has [Kristaps] Porzingis… Is Porzingis gonna be great for their team? They kind of have to answer that question,” Scalabrine said. “I think from Atlanta’s standpoint, they have to, kind of figure out, where are they going as a group?”

If things go well for the Hawks in the upcoming season, the future could be bright for the team.

If they can finally capitalize on their talent and make an impact in the East, they could hold onto Young for the long-term future.

But if things don’t go smoothly, they might lose him in the summer.

This season could be do-or-die for the Hawks.

The team has been attempting to build a strong roster around Young, which is one of the reasons why they acquired Porzingis in the offseason.

He seems like the sort of star who can play easily off of Young, and fans are already expecting explosive lobs and fast movement up and down the court.

The expectations are high for the Hawks, and they have been for a few years.

But if don’t live up to those expectations, this could be the end of the road for Young in Atlanta.
