Joel Klatt’s Shocking Texas A&M Ranking Will Leave Fans Speechless—See Where They Land in His Top 10!

Texas A&M’s recent 16-10 victory over Auburn might not have set the national media ablaze like their nail-biting 41-40 triumph at Notre Dame, but there’s something undeniably compelling about how this team adapts and perseveres. Holding the Tigers to a mere 177 total yards and entirely stifling their rushing attack, the Aggies showcased a defensive toughness that caught the eye of Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt, who was genuinely taken by their ability to flip the script from high-scoring offense to lockdown defense in the span of a week. However, 13 costly penalties dampened the offensive momentum, capping the Aggies’ scoring—and yet, quarterback Marcel Reed still managed one of his season’s finer passing outings, according to Pro Football Focus. This blend of grit, occasional mistakes, and flashes of brilliance paints a vivid picture of a team growing into its own as October looms. The landscape beyond this game is just as fascinating, with Texas A&M solidifying their spot among the top teams nationwide, poised for the challenges ahead. LEARN MORE

Who would have thought that Texas A&M’s 16-10 win over the Auburn Tigers would impress most of the national media, similar to the Aggies’ 41-40 road win over Notre Dame? Well, that wasn’t exactly the case, but after shutting down the Tigers’ offense to just 177 yards, including 52 rushing yards, Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt was highly impressed with the Aggies’ ability to score at will one week and play elite defense the next.

Context is everything, and due to the Aggies’ 13 penalties, which killed nearly every offensive drive after the opening game touchdown, 16 points is all OC Collin Klein’s unit could muster, even though starting quarterback Marcel Reed had one of his better passing performances of the season, according to Pro Football Focus.

Around the rest of the Week 5 college football schedule, Oregon pulled off the OT win over Penn State, Ohio State took care of business on the road against Washington, and Ole Miss defeated LSU at home to stay undefeated, as all three teams joined Texas A&M in staying undefeated heading into October.

On Monday, Joel Klatt released his top 10 teams entering Week 6, placing Texas A&M at No. 4 above rival Texas (No. 5) before hosting Mississippi State on Saturday afternoon.

“A&M is at 4, and here’s what I love about A&M: They’re won two different styles of game. They won a shoot out in South Bend over Notre Dame, then they win a slug fest against Auburn at home, in which their defense was tremenous, holding Auburn to 0-13 on third down, so now I know that they have some balance as it relates to how you can win a football game.”

Texas A&M’s offense is expected to look much better against the Bulldogs, especially if the penalties are no longer a consistent issue. Looking ahead, the Aggies’ remaining schedule looks less daunting after Arkansas fired longtime head coach Sam Pittman, while Florida and LSU have both displayed weaknesses.
