Judge and Ohtani Ignite Historic Duel with Electrifying First-Inning Homers in Epic Yankees-Dodgers Showdown

Judge stepped to the plate first, sending one deep off Tony Gonsolin, marking his 19th bomb this season, which evened him up with Seattle’s Cal Raleigh atop the American League leaderboard. Not to be outdone, Raleigh fired back almost immediately, nudging ahead with 20 homers.

But then Ohtani came through, absolutely tattooing a first pitch from Max Fried — something he’s been downright relentless about lately — scoring his league-best 21st homer of the campaign. The crowd at Dodger Stadium was roaring, but if you ask me, the biggest applause might’ve come from the MLB offices. Sarah Langs from MLB.com pointed out this was just the second time in history that reigning MVPs went deep in the same game, a milestone joining a 2003 duo of Barry Bonds and Miguel Tejada.
