The spring transfer portal window opened on Wednesday, and more than 1,000 players from different schools entered the portal. 

More are expected to enter the portal over the next nine days until it closes on April 25. 

College football is a different sport now compared to where it was a decade ago, and everyone knows it, including College GameDay’s Kirk Herbstreit. Herbstreit has had to roll with the changes in the sport, but is still unhappy about one big thing.

He doesn’t like how people are so afraid of criticizing college football players. 

Everyone’s afraid of litigation. Everybody’s afraid of the threat of litigation. Nobody says what they really think,” Herbstreit said on the “Pat McAfee Show,” via Awful Announcing. “Nobody’s willing to be a leader. Nobody’s leading this sport. That’s where we are right now.”

College football is the wild, wild west right now, and a lot of teams are still trying to catch up. Heck, even college football media members like Herbstreit think the sport is crazy right now.

It’s been like this since NIL came into play in 2021, and it’s not going away anytime soon. The transfer portal has turned into free agency since players have agents now.

Heck, college football programs have even hired general managers to help assist head coaches since they need help balancing everything. 

Spring practices and games might be wrapping up, but just like the NFL, college football never sleeps. There is always news to discuss since so much happens every week. 

Ohio State won last season’s College Football Playoff and will try to repeat when the 2025 season starts in late August.
