Lakers’ Bold Move Sparks Speculation: Are They Eyeing Championship Glory This Season?

So here we are, standing on the cusp of another NBA season, and if you thought the Los Angeles Lakers were just warming up, think again. These guys aren’t just chasing wins—they’re chasing obsession, literally. At their recent training camp, the players rocked shirts emblazoned with the word “Obsession” alongside the number 18, a bold nod to the 18th championship banner they’re hellbent on adding to the rafters. It’s a statement loud enough to echo across the league, but here’s the kicker—does sheer determination and a stacked roster really guarantee that elusive ring in a conference that’s tougher than ever? With new faces like Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart joining the mix, plus the electric presence of Luka Doncic and a nearing retirement LeBron James with something to prove, the Lakers are packed with potential—but so is every Western team. So, can the purple and gold convert obsession into reality, or will the chase end in frustration? Let’s dive into what makes this season a nail-biter waiting to unfold.

The Los Angeles Lakers are ready for the new NBA season, and they clearly have just one goal in mind.

They want another championship, and they aren’t looking to wait.

Arash Markazi highlighted this fact by pointing out the shirts that Lakers players were wearing at training camp on Monday.

“Lakers players are wearing ‘Obsession’ shirts at training camp with 18 in it signifying the 18th championship they are trying to win this season,” Markazi posted on X.

They have their sights set on an 18th championship banner, and they want it in 2025-26.

Some fans feel that could happen, but it won’t be easy.

The team improved the roster this summer, especially with the additions of Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart.

Plus, 2025-26 will be the first full year with Luka Doncic in the mix.

On top of all that, LeBron James is nearing the end of his NBA career and wants to claim another ring before retirement.

Meanwhile, other players like Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, and Dalton Knecht are improving and willing and eager to take on more responsibilities.

Head coach JJ Redick has a deeper roster and more drive among his players.

There is every reason to believe that they can have a successful season and perhaps push far into the playoffs.

But it’s important to remember just how fierce the Western Conference is now.

The reigning champion Oklahoma City Thunder could actually be better, and other teams like the Denver Nuggets and Houston Rockets aren’t going to take things lightly.

The Lakers may be looking better, but that’s true for the rest of the conference.

Just because the Lakers are “obsessed” with winning another title doesn’t mean they will.
