Lakers Eye Bold Move to Snag Miami’s Veteran Wing—Could This Shake Up the Season?
So, here we go again — the Lakers, fresh off locking down Luka Dončić with a long-term deal, are stirring the pot on the trade market with a barely concealed hunger. Ever wonder if stacking former No. 1 picks is just an obsession or the secret sauce to championship glory? Well, now they’re eyeing Andrew Wiggins, the Miami Heat’s wing with a two-way game that could be just the missing puzzle piece on their patchy defense. It’s like they’re saying, “We’re done waiting — let’s get aggressive, get smart, and build around Luka.” But can Wiggins really blend into this star-studded mix and transform their rollout? The Lakers’ next move might just tell us if this gamble pays off — or if it’s another season of missed chances.

Now that Luka Doncic has signed a long-term deal with them, the Los Angeles Lakers are looking to be active on the trade market.
Dan Woike is reporting that the Lakers are expected to be “aggressive” on the trade market and have an eye on Andrew Wiggins, currently of the Miami Heat.
“While the Lakers had resisted scenarios in which the team would take on contracts that lasted beyond the 2025-26 season earlier this summer, Dončić’s multi-year commitment has nudged LA’s priorities in more aggressive directions. One area the team is focused on is upgrading the wing, where it needs more two-way talent. A player like Miami’s Andrew Wiggins, whom the Lakers weren’t interested in earlier this summer, is now a more desirable player, provided the price is right,” per Dan Woike.

Wiggins is the sort of player who could perfectly fill the role the Lakers need: a two-way forward who can take on multiple roles.
He was recently sent to the Miami Heat after several years with the Golden State Warriors.
Years ago, Wiggins was the No. 1 pick in the 2014 draft, and if the Lakers signed him, they’d have several former No. 1 picks, which is quite an accomplishment.
But, beyond that, Wiggins really could be a key piece of the Lakers’ rotation.
Like all teams, they need offense, but LA’s defense has been a problem area for some time, especially after the loss of Anthony Davis.
Wiggins’ skill set allows him to shoot well – he posted 44.8 percent from the field last year – but he can lock down defenders too.
When he came to the Heat a few months ago, a lot of fans expected he wouldn’t stay there for long.
His move to Miami was part of the Jimmy Butler trade, and he felt like collateral in that deal.
Now, the Lakers reportedly have their eyes on him, and they could aggressively pursue him when the trade deadline rolls around.
They know that Doncic is committed to LA, and they want the strongest team around him.
