Lions Stars Reveal Shocking Truth Behind Bears’ Preseason Offense Performance

So here we are, staring down the barrel of another NFL season, and guess what? The Detroit Lions—yes, those same Lions who roared through 2024 with the league’s highest-scoring offense—are still making waves, but not without a twist. After lighting up scoreboards with an average of 33.2 points per game, they hit that pesky playoff brick wall against the Washington Commanders. Now, here’s the kicker: their offensive mastermind, Ben Johnson, has packed his playbook (and probably a few Lions’ secrets) and moved on to become the Chicago Bears’ head coach. Is it déjà vu for Detroit’s stars Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs, watching the Bears run eerily familiar plays this preseason? Could this shared playbook be the chess move that stymies their former team or shakes up the NFC North’s power struggle? Buckle up—this offseason saga might just be as thrilling as game day itself.

The Detroit Lions had one of the most prolific offenses in the NFL during the 2024 season.

They scored the most points per game of any team with 33.2, seemingly unstoppable during the regular season.

Unfortunately for the Lions, the clock struck midnight, in a sense, during the playoffs, as they couldn’t stave off the Washington Commanders, who beat them in the divisional round.

Their offense was strong the prior year, but they took another massive step in 2024, making them a tough out for any opponent.

While much of their roster has remained the same, they did lose offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who is now the head coach for the Chicago Bears.

Johnson is regarded as an offensive guru, and he could be a part of the change that the Bears have been looking for over the past several years.

He might need to switch up his schemes slightly from his days in Detroit, however, as Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs both recently noted on the “Up & Adams” show that their plays looked familiar in the preseason.

“Watching a fellow Trojan, Caleb [Williams], watching Ben, watching the offense operate, it looked good,” St. Brown said.

“It’s funny watching the same plays that we ran,” Gibbs noted.

St. Brown and Gibbs noted that a lot of Johnson’s plays were similar to what they ran in Detroit, which could certainly give the Lions a defensive advantage in a future matchup if that stays the same.

Caleb Williams is trying to get off his feet and become the NFL quarterback that many believe he can be, but if he runs a lot of the same plays that Johnson ran in Detroit, he could get stifled a lot sooner than he’d like.

Both teams are hungry and ready to start the season, more than excited to begin the dogfight that is the battle for the NFC North title.
