Louisiana Football Poised for Historic Breakthrough in 68 Ventures Bowl Showdown

After a rollercoaster season that had its share of doubts and thrilling moments, Louisiana’s gridiron warriors have punched their ticket to postseason play, setting their sights on the 68 Ventures Bowl on December 17 in Mobile, Alabama. Riding high on a four-game winning streak that reignited their campaign, the Ragin’ Cajuns (6-6, 5-3 SBC) are ready to test their mettle against Delaware, whose own rollercoaster season ended with a convincing victory over UTEP. This clash, steeped in firsts—from the bowl itself to their inaugural meeting with the Blue Hens—promises a showdown brimming with anticipation and pride. Under the steady hand of head coach Michael Desormeaux, who’s extended UL’s bowl streak to an eighth consecutive year, the Cajuns have turned early season wobbles into momentum, fueled notably by quarterback Lunch Winfield’s spark on offense. As both squads gear up for this December showdown, it’s not just a game; it’s an opportunity to etch their names on a shiny new trophy and savor those championship bragging rights. LEARN MORE

This marks the eighth season in a row and fourth under head coach Michael Desormeaux that UL will make a bowl game appearance. It will also mark the first-ever appearance in the 68 Ventures Bowl and first ever meeting with the Blue Hens. All these firsts shouldn’t phase the Cajuns too much as the second half of their season was dedicated to landing a bowl game.

After a shaky start to the season and Sun Belt Conference play, they weathered the storm with the help of a sparkplug on offense in quarterback Lunch Winfield. For the Blue Hens (6-6, 4-4 C-USA) it’s a similar story as their season has been filled with ups and downs ending the regular season on a high note with a win over UTEP.

Both teams will spend the next 11 days preparing to battle it out one last time in the 2025 college football season with the winner leaving Hancock Whitney Stadium with bragging rights and some hardware to bring home.
