Mike Tomlin’s Shocking QB Decision for Steelers vs. Bears Will Change the Game—Find Out Who’s Starting!

So here we are, staring down the barrel of a Sunday showdown without one of football’s brightest stars — Aaron Rodgers won’t be suiting up for the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Chicago Bears. You have to wonder: can Mason Rudolph, the steadfast but seldom-heralded backup, really fill those massive cleats in the Windy City? Coach Mike Tomlin’s decision to sit Rodgers due to that pesky left wrist injury changes the entire landscape of this game. Rodgers has had the Bears’ number for years, practically owning them, and watching him from the sidelines? That’s gotta sting. Meanwhile, Rudolph steps into a spotlight that’s far from a place he ever imagined shining. This game just got a lot more intriguing — and maybe a bit unpredictable. Will Tomlin’s gamble pay off, or is it time for the Steelers to brace for the sting of a Rodgers-less offense? Let’s dive in.

The Pittsburgh Steelers won’t have their future Hall of Famer on the field on Sunday. Despite his attempts and wishes, Aaron Rodgers will have to watch from afar.

According to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin ruled out Rodgers from the game. Instead, Mason Rudolph will get the nod in the Windy City:

“No Aaron Rodgers: Steelers HC Mike Tomlin told [Evan Washburn] in a pregame interview that Mason Rudolph will start today vs. Chicago,” Schefter posted on X.

Rudolph, a perennial backup who’s more than familiar with the Steelers’ offense, always finds ways to get on the field. He’s not a star by any means, and might be a game manager at best, but he’s an experienced backup.

Rodgers sustained a left wrist injury in the win over the Cincinnati Bengals. His status against the Chicago Bears was always up in the air, but he was reportedly trying to push through the injury to continue his dominance against his favorite victim in what would most likely be his final chapter at Soldier Field.

The Green Bay Packers legend is public enemy No. 1 in Chicago after claiming ownership of the Bears. Even so, given his numbers and the success he’s had against them over more than a decade, it’s hard to deny that he has bragging rights over the organization.

Ben Johnson’s team will benefit from his absence. Their defense has regressed from the Matt Eberflus era.

But now, with three players leading the league in interceptions, they should be in a position to make the most of Mason Rudolph’s inevitable mistakes to create some turnovers.
