Are the Rays smarter than the rest of us or too smart for their own good? Perhaps both. For what seems like the 95th year in a row, Tampa did a bunch of deadline needle-point, neither selling nor buying.
Poking their head into the Minnesota dumpster fire to scoop up Jax (under control through 2027) was a nice bit of business. The Rays also gave up a ton to get Hunter Fedducia, for some reason. That the Rays, widely considered one of the more analytically advanced teams, continue to shuffle through catchers like phone chargers (they’ve had the second-most backstops since the start of 2023) is very funny to me.
