Mysterious Death of Promising 18-Year-Old SEC Student Found in River Sparks Urgent Investigation
On May 25, the Columbia Police Department found a body floating in the Congaree Rivera. That person was later identified as South Carolina student Donaven Dempsey. His body was near a boat landing along Highway 601, according to WBTV.
Dempsey’s family last spoke to him on May 8. He was leaving his hometown of Spartanburg to go back to the University of South Carolina. Unfortunately, none of his family members heard from him again.Â
The Richland County Sheriff’s Department said they responded to a 911 call at the river Sunday. Witnesses at the river told WIS the body was found near the Bates Bridge Boat landing in Eastover, just off of Highway 601.
