Newcastle’s Burn Sends Unexpected Message to Isak After Shocking Liverpool Transfer

The whirlwind surrounding Alexander Isak’s jaw-dropping £125million move from Newcastle United to Liverpool has finally hit the finish line — and what a saga it’s been! From the moment Isak decided to sidestep training and matches, sending shockwaves through St. James’ Park, to the heated back-and-forth that followed, this transfer drama gave us all a rollercoaster of emotions. Newcastle, initially firm on keeping their star forward, relented as fresh faces Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa came in, sealing the deal that sent Isak to the Premier League champions. Amidst a silent official statement that oddly skimmed over his crucial role in last season’s EFL Cup triumph, the striker himself took to Instagram, expressing heartfelt gratitude for three unforgettable years with the Magpies. Even Dan Burn, often the voice of reason, chimed in with nothing but goodwill for his former teammate — though, of course, with a cheeky nod to rivalries ahead. It’s a tale of ambition, loyalty, and raw emotion that’s left no Newcastle fan unmoved and Liverpool supporters buzzing with anticipation. LEARN MORE

Dan Burn has “nothing but good wishes” for Alexander Isak following the striker’s British record transfer from Newcastle United to Liverpool.

Isak completed a £125million switch to Anfield on deadline day, bringing to an end a long and contentious transfer saga.

The Sweden international had refused to train or play for Newcastle as he sought to force through his move, and released a statement claiming their relationship could not continue, accusing the club of breaking promises made to him.

Newcastle had insisted they would not sell their talisman but, with Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa coming in as replacements, they agreed a deal for Isak to join the defending Premier League champions.

The Magpies released a 37-word statement announcing the move, which made no reference to his goals or his contributions to Newcastle winning the EFL Cup last season.

Isak posted on Instagram thanking the club and the Newcastle fans for “three unforgettable years”, while team-mates such as Anthony Gordon and Sven Botman paid tribute to Isak on social media upon his departure.

And, speaking ahead of England’s World Cup qualifier with Andorra, Newcastle centre-back Burn made it clear there were no hard feelings from his point of view.

“I am glad it is done,” Burn told a press conference of the saga that had dominated the summer.

“We wanted the transfer window closed to have a bit of clarity on it. I have been in football long enough to understand that for a player, the careers are short and they have got things they want to achieve.

“Alex is a mate and it is a tough situation because you want him to be around and helping the team, but also understand for him what he needs to do personally. I have nothing but good wishes for Alex.

“No animosity. As a Newcastle fan, we are very protective of our club and city and we want players to be there who want to play for Newcastle and you don’t want them to naively think that there is anyone else to go apart from Newcastle. So I understand why our fans are frustrated.

“I wish Alex all the best apart from when we play Liverpool, obviously.”
