When the offseason began, re-signing Brock Boeser wasn’t Plan A for the Canucks. Vancouver had plans of fundamentally transforming its top-six forward group, and was prioritizing a splashy center acquisition. The Canucks only had about $12 million in cap space and was earmarking that room for a player or two who could move the needle more than Boeser and Suter, the club’s two marquee UFAs.
