NHL Free Agency 2025: Which 10 Blockbuster Contracts Are Redefining the Game?

After scouring the league’s signings, here are 10 of the best contracts that teams have inked in free agency so far. We won’t be counting players who re-signed with their team, such as Aaron Ekblad, John Tavares, Matt Duchene and Claude Giroux, unless they actually made it to July 1 without an agreement in place, nor will we be counting restricted-free-agent signings.


Mitch Marner, Vegas Golden Knights

Contract: $12 million x eight years

It felt like half the league was armed with the cap space, assets and ambition to go big-game hunting this offseason. Unfortunately, many of those motivated buyers are walking away from the summer empty-handed because the supply of star players was extraordinarily scarce. The Golden Knights, on the other hand, emerged victorious with Mitch Marner, the offseason’s biggest prize.
