A strong straight-line player with a dangerous shot and a knack for scoring goals, Nelson will be of interest to teams looking to fill a hole at second-line center. Viewed as defensively responsible after developing his game on Long Island, he also has utility as a playmaker. Now, at this stage of his career, Nelson may not be counted on to drive his own line full-time. He’d benefit from having an offensive weapon at his side. But he’s a useful special-teams contributor who can kill penalties and man the net-front on the power play.
