Bennett is on the younger end of this free-agent class and brings something that can’t be measured with boxcar numbers: tenacity. One NHL exec calls him a “dog on a bone.” So while other centers with longer track records of regular-season production will be available in free agency, Bennett will be more in demand because he’s viewed as a player who could tip the scales for a team in the playoffs. That’s a significant piece of leverage to bring to market. Seeing him compete in a third straight Stanley Cup Final this spring will only boost his value, especially since Bennett enters the championship series with a playoff-leading 10 goals.
