Oklahoma Sooners’ Surprising Bowl Destination Revealed in Latest USA TODAY Projections!

Right now, the Oklahoma Sooners find themselves at a crossroads that’s as thrilling as it is daunting. Sitting at 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the SEC, they face a gauntlet of top-tier opponents in their remaining five games—none of them pushovers, mind you. With each matchup featuring a ranked team from the latest US LBM Coaches Poll, including a high-stakes showdown against Ole Miss this Saturday in Norman, the pressure couldn’t be higher. I gotta say, their schedule’s brutal—but that’s exactly the kind of challenge that keeps the playoff talks alive, provided they keep their act together. Their recent win over South Carolina might not have bumped them back into ESPN’s playoff projections just yet, but USA TODAY Sports shows them firmly in the hunt with an at-large bid, lined up for a marquee clash with Notre Dame. It’s a precarious dance on the razor’s edge—win four of these last five and they’re very likely sitting pretty at 10-2, but slip even a bit and things get a whole lot messier. Still, given the unforgiving slate ahead, the Sooners have more than enough ammo to argue their case. Intrigued? LEARN MORE

The Oklahoma Sooners have a tough road ahead as they sit at 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the SEC. Each of their final five games comes against teams ranked in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll, including a top 15 matchup with Ole Miss this Saturday in Norman.

With their difficult strength of schedule, the Sooners will be in the playoff discussion as long as they take care of business. Their win over South Carolina wasn’t enough to move the Sooners back into the playoff field, according to ESPN. But over at USA TODAY Sports, Oklahoma is in the playoff field as an at-large bid and will take on another blue blood, Notre Dame.

In USA TODAY Sports latest bowl projections, the Sooners are one of four teams from the SEC to make the College Football Playoff. Alabama at No. 2 and Georgia at No. 4 earn byes in Erick Smith’s projections while Oklahoma and Texas A&M are the at-large bids.

For the Sooners to solidify a spot in the playoff, they’ll have to go at least 4-1 over the final five games, which would likely include a pivotal road win over Tennessee or Alabama. That would put the Sooners at 10-2. A 3-2 record over the final five games would leave the Sooners at 9-3, which would put the Sooners on the playoff bubble. But given their difficult schedule, Oklahoma would have a strong case to make the playoff.
