"Oklahoma State's Mike Gundy Unleashes Bold Critique of NCAA: Is a Storm Brewing in College Sports?"

In the ever-evolving landscape of college football, where lines are drawn between tradition and modern demands, Mike Gundy, head coach of Oklahoma State, decides to take a stand—grabbing the collective ear of the sports world. With the NCAA recently rejecting Colorado’s request for joint spring practices, citing reasons related to timing and fairness, it’s left many coaches scratching their heads. After all, in a realm that thrives on competition and innovation, why should they be stymied by bureaucracy? Gundy’s bold remarks not only highlight his frustration but also serve as a rallying cry for those who are tired of outdated regulations dictating the pace of play. So, could this be a precursor to a significant shift in how college football operates? Or, will the NCAA continue to play gatekeeper in an era that demands flexibility? Let’s delve into this intriguing dilemma and see where it leads! LEARN MORE.

5 College Football Coaches Who Could Eventually Leave For The NFL (1:51)

Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy is a “man” and he’s decided to openly challenge the NCAA after its latest ruling.

Last week, college football‘s governing body denied Colorado’s request for a joint spring practices and a scrimmage vs. Syracuse due to three main factors: the late timing, a “recruiting advantage” and “potential academic impact.”

The NCAA added that it would be open to discussing “a concept that could permit joint spring practices in future seasons.” But for right now, the FBS oversight committee deems it illegal.

That didn’t sit right with the Cowboys head coach, who had planned on doing something similar with former Big 12 rival Oklahoma this year.

“I mean I mentioned it the other day, I just thought of the deal with OU,” Gundy explained. “I think it’s a good deal. I would like to do it. I would like to practice against them.”

“I’ll be honest with you, I’m not going to waste my time on who’s going to determine what the rules are anymore,” he added. “Because essentially there’s not really enough of them to follow. And I’m not sure how they have grounds to say you can’t do it. Like if somebody just goes and does it, what are they going to do to them?”

Gundy is far from the only coach to speak out against the NCAA in the era of NIL and the transfer portal and individual spring games have taken a bit of a backseat since programs like Nebraska announced they would no longer be holding the traditional exhibitions.

What do you make of Gundy’s comments? Do you think he would go for it anyway?
