Packers' Devonte Wyatt Injury: Shocking Update Could Change Season Outlook

Ever get that feeling a team’s energy just dips right when you need it most? That’s exactly where the Green Bay Packers find themselves these days—after an electrifying start, something’s just been… off. But here’s the kicker: there’s a glimmer of hope shining through, thanks to defensive disruptor Devonte Wyatt. Hurt in Week 4, Wyatt’s absence has left a noticeable void in a defense that’s struggled to apply pressure and halt the run. So, will this gritty defensive tackle’s comeback be the spark the Packers need to reignite their season? Coach Matt LaFleur’s recent update hints we might not have to wait much longer. And honestly, with how Wyatt was ramping up—13 pressures and two sacks in just three games—it feels like the defense’s heartbeat is ready to pick back up. Let’s dive into the latest on Wyatt and why his return could change the Packers’ fortunes altogether.

The Green Bay Packers haven’t shown the same spark that they had in the first two weeks of the season, though they did defeat the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 6 coming off their bye.

Part of the issue has been injuries on both offense and defense, but help could be on the way soon.

The team got an encouraging update on defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt, who suffered a knee injury in Week 4.

“He’s getting closer. … We’ll give him the week,” head coach Matt LaFleur said.

While that is discouraging for those who thought Wyatt might be able to come back for the Week 7 game against the Arizona Cardinals, it leaves the door open for a potential return in Week 8 when the Packers take on the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Wyatt was off to a strong start with 13 pressures and two sacks in the first three games, which was a big step up from his production over the previous couple of seasons, but the injury against the Dallas Cowboys derailed his momentum.

Hopefully, he is trending toward a return and can pick up where he left off, because this defense needs him as it has struggled to stop the run or generate the same kind of pressure on the quarterback in his absence.

The Packers may have to endure it one week longer than expected, but the light at the end of the tunnel appears to be getting brighter.
