Panthers Stun Fans with Surprise Signing of Former Raiders WR—What This Means for the Offense

If there’s one thing we know about Panthers football these days, it’s that patience feels like a luxury—and 2024 was another rollercoaster for Carolina. Bryce Young’s sophomore season danced all over the place, sparking both eyebrow raises and belly-aching sighs from fans. Yet, in those last few quarters, he flashed that rare sparkle that whispers, “Maybe next year.” So, when the Panthers snagged Tetairoa McMillan, the crown jewel among receivers in the recent draft, they weren’t just casting a lifeline to their rookie QB—they were staking a claim for something bigger. But the draft wasn’t the endgame. Enter Hunter Renfrow: a steady veteran whose Las Vegas days are behind him, now ready to be that guiding light and reliable target. Can his presence in the locker room—and on the field—tip the scales from frustrated attempts to genuine promise? If the Panthers’ helmet in that photo could talk, it might just be muttering, “Here’s hoping we’ve finally cracked the code.”

It’s no secret that the 2024 NFL season didn’t go according to plan for the Carolina Panthers.

Bryce Young’s second NFL season had a lot of ups and downs, making for a frustrated fan base at times.

He did show some flashes of greatness, however, especially at the end of the season, giving some hope that the 2025 campaign will be better.

The Panthers tried to show Young that they are doing whatever they can to build around him in this year’s draft, selecting Tetairoa McMillan with the No. 8 overall pick, a top WR prospect.

McMillan was said to be the best WR in the class, and if he proves to be worth all the hype, it was certainly a worthy pickup for the Panthers.

They weren’t done adding players after the draft, as the team recently announced that they’ve come to an agreement with Hunter Renfrow.

Renfrow played for the Las Vegas Raiders from 2019-2023 before being released ahead of the 2024 campaign.

Some thought he retired, but it seems like he is ready to go and be a contributor for a new, exciting team.

With any luck, he’ll not only be a strong piece for Young to throw to and rely on, but he’ll also be someone that the youngest players on the team can look up to and ask questions.

Having veteran players on every team has proven to be valuable, as their presence in the locker room can be enough to boost morale and a team’s overall on-field performance.
