Pellegrini Reveals Shocking Reason Behind Antony’s Fiery Return from Man Utd Ahead of Chelsea Showdown
There’s something electric about a player finding a second wind, don’t you think? Brazilian winger Antony has definitely tapped into that spark since his loan move to Real Betis, and man, coach Manuel Pellegrini isn’t shy about sharing how the 25-year-old arrived on Spanish soil with a fire in his belly. Remember the €100 million splash Manchester United made to bring him over from Ajax? Yeah, that one. Despite that hefty price tag, Antony’s Premier League score sheet was surprisingly sparse—just five goals over two and a half seasons. But fast forward to his time at Betis, and he’s matched that goal tally in just 17 LaLiga games, plus netting four more in their striking Conference League campaign, right before Wednesday’s showdown with Chelsea. It’s a tale of redemption, grit, and a young talent refusing to let early struggles define him. Betis’ veteran coach Pellegrini believes this loan stint could be a pivotal chapter in Antony’s career—a chance to rewrite the story and show the world what a 100-million euro player truly looks like on the pitch. Brazilian winger Antony has found fresh motivation since joining Real Betis on loan and head coach Manuel Pellegrini says the 25-year-old arrived in Spain determined to prove himself.
Antony was signed by Manchester United for €100 million from Ajax but managed just five Premier League goals in two-and-a-half seasons.
However, he has already matched that tally in 17 LaLiga appearances for Betis. He has also netted four goals in the club’s impressive Conference League run, ahead of Wednesday’s final against Chelsea.
Speaking ahead of the final in Wrocław, Poland, Pellegrini explained how Antony came to Betis with a point to prove.
“I spoke with him before he came to Betis. He told me that he was not playing because he was not happy, but he had a lot of complaints about what he has done also.
“He wanted revenge and here in Betis I think he had it and he did it in the way we know he can do because it’s not easy for you to play as a 100-million player.
