Record-Breaking Ticket Prices Spark Frenzy Ahead of Indiana vs. Miami National Championship Showdown

It’s no secret that ticket prices for the upcoming College Football Playoff National Championship between No. 1 Indiana and No. 10 Miami have skyrocketed into jaw-dropping territory. As I checked Saturday morning, the bare minimum to secure a seat on GameTime was north of $3,500 — and that’s before you even think about the fees. To put that into perspective, this figure dwarfs the average cost of tickets from the last five title games on that platform by thousands of dollars. Hard Rock Stadium, the Hurricanes’ home turf, hosting Miami’s first crack at the title since 2001, combined with Indiana’s first-ever shot at a football national championship in the midst of an undefeated season, has clearly stirred an unparalleled frenzy among fans. Hoosier supporters have already made their presence felt in Atlanta for the Peach Bowl, and the sheer size of Indiana’s alumni base is only adding fuel to this ticket price fire. Usually, as kickoff nears, secondary market prices ease up — but this year might be an entirely different beast. Are we witnessing a new era of college football ticket insanity? Only time will tell. Ticket prices for the College Football Playoff National Championship Game between No. 1 Indiana and No. 10 Miami are at absurdly high levels.

As of Saturday morning, the cheapest ticket for the Jan. 19 game on GameTime is over $3,500 including fees. That price is thousands of dollars higher than the average ticket price of any of the previous five national title games on GameTime.

There are a couple of obvious reasons for the high prices. The game is at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens where Miami plays its home games. And the Hurricanes are playing for their first national championship since the 2001 season.

Indiana, meanwhile, has never won a national title in football. And its fans are enjoying every minute of their undefeated season. Hoosier fans flooded Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta for Friday night’s Peach Bowl blowout of Oregon. It’s not an exaggeration to say that more than 80% of the crowd was wearing red. Indiana has the largest living alumni base of any school in the country; there are lots of alums who would love to see their school play for a national title.

Big-game ticket prices typically come down on the secondary market as kickoff approaches, but this year’s title game could largely prove to be the exception to that rule. Last year’s average ticket price for Ohio State’s win over Notre Dame was just over $2,700. And even that was over $700 higher than the average ticket price for Michigan’s win over TCU in January of 2024.

Yes, the average ticket prices for the last two title games are considerably below the current price to simply get in the building. Will that hold?
