Ryan Day remembered Dwayne Haskins on the three-year anniversary of the former Ohio State quarterback’s passing.
On April 9, 2022, Haskins died at age 24. The Buckeyes star was hit by a dump truck while walking alongside a Florida interstate.
Day paid tribute to Haskins on Wednesday morning, posting a photo of him at the Rose Bowl.

In 2018, Haskins completed 70 percent of his passes for 4,831 yards and 50 touchdowns. He finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting behind Kyler Murray and Tua Tagovailoa.
Ryan Day started that season as interim head coach, leading Ohio State to three victories with Urban Meyer on leave. Haskins concluded his Buckeyes career by throwing three touchdowns in a 28-23 Rose Bowl win over Washington on New Year’s Day.
Haskins then joined the NFL as the No. 15 pick. He started 13 games in two seasons with the Washington Commanders and signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers weeks before his death.
“The loss of Dwayne is beyond tragic and extremely difficult to process,” Day wrote three years ago. “For those who knew him closely, he was much more than a great football player. He had a giant heart, old soul, and an infectious smile. The Ohio State community and our entire football program are heartbroken.”
Shortly after the tragedy, Day discussed how he’d remember Haskins.
“He was 11 years old walking through this facility and said, ‘This is what I’m going to do,’ and then did it,” Day said. “I think that’s the legacy he’s going to leave behind to so many younger people across the country, not just in Buckeye Nation, is that you can set a dream and goal and go achieve it … I think that’s probably one of the biggest legacies he’s going to leave behind. He set a dream, and he chased it, and he did it.”
