Day noted that the expanded College Football Playoff gave Ohio State a longer and more arduous path. After losing their final game of the regular season to Michigan, the Buckeyes defeated Tennessee, No. 1 Oregon, and Texas by at least 14 points each before notching a 34-23 win over Notre Dame in the National Championship Game.
