Senators' Nick Cousins Fined for Pre-Game Antics Against Leafs: What Really Happened?

While both teams seemed to find the lighter side of Thursday’s incident, which saw Cousins direct pucks at Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz, the league didn’t view it as a laughing matter.

Cousins was fined $2,083.33 — the maximum allowable under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement — and the Senators were hit, too, in an effort to snuff out any similar behaviour moving forward.

Trailing 3-0 in the series, the Senators got a chuckle earlier Friday out of the fact the NHL had launched an investigation into something they considered a playful act. If anything, that news noticeably lightened the mood around a team facing elimination.
