Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's Jaw-Dropping Career-High Leaves Pacers Stunned – What Comes Next?

Ever watched a basketball game so thrilling that you wondered if anyone on the court had an actual pulse left by the final buzzer? Well, that’s been the Oklahoma City Thunder’s opening act this season — two games in, and already double overtime galore. Now, sprinkle in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who didn’t just show up but practically stormed the stage with a career-high 55 points against the Pacers. I mean, who racks up 55 points while also grabbing rebounds and dishing assists like it’s just another Tuesday? It’s the kind of performance that makes you ask: Has Shai unlocked some secret MVP code we mere mortals didn’t even know existed? Buckle up, because if the Thunder’s season continues like this, we’re in for a wild ride—one that might just rewrite the narrative on what a young superstar can achieve under pressure.

The 2025-26 season has already been very long for the Oklahoma City Thunder, even though they have only played two games.

Both of those games have featured double overtime, and, thankfully, they have resulted in tight victories.

They have also shown the fans, once again, how great Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is.

On Thursday night, Gilgeous-Alexander had a new career-high against the Indiana Pacers.

He posted 55 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two steals, shooting 15-of-31 from the field and 23-of-26 from the free throw line.

By the end of the game, Gilgeous-Alexander was obviously wiped out and ready for some downtime, and no one can blame him.

The team knew they would have a tough year, but few thought they’d make history with back-to-back double overtime matches.

He had to put his all into the game and looked like an MVP once again.

If he is hoping for any sort of relief soon, he’d better think again, because the entire season could be filled with games just like this one.

So far this season, he has an amazing average of 45.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 5.0 assists on 47.4 percent from the field.

His numbers won’t stay that high forever, but these two games are great examples of what Gilgeous-Alexander is capable of.

There has been speculation about the Thunder becoming champions again and Gilgeous-Alexander claiming his second MVP trophy.

Those are not easy tasks, but Gilgeous-Alexander and his team could be well on their way to both if they continue playing like this.

The Thunder don’t have much time off because they are headed to Atlanta to take on the Hawks on Saturday.

Gilgeous-Alexander will be front and center for that game and will likely score a lot, but until then, he is going to let his body rest.
