Shaikin: Could Bat Flips Be the Secret to Reviving Baseball’s All-Star Game?
Back in 1980, when the All-Star Game took place at Dodger Stadium, players had more breathing room before returning to regular-season play. Now they barely get the luxury of rest. The game means different things now — winning for the National League once carried weight, but those days are gone. Player commitments, family logistics, and the marathon of the season have made the game less of a priority.
Maybe it’s time to shake things up — push the All-Star Game back a day, bring the Derby earlier, make schedules even friendlier for players and fans alike. Move the Futures Game to a day without competing matchups, and suddenly, the entire midsummer celebration could burst with new life.
