Shockwaves Across College Football: Fans Left Stunned by Bret Bielema’s Unexpected Announcement
Bielema became the head coach of the Fighting Illini in 2021. Although he did own an 8-5 record in his second season, it wasn’t until the 2024 season that he re-established himself as a top-tier coach.
Illinois went 10-3 during the 2024 season, with two of its three losses coming against College Football Playoff contenders in Oregon and Minnesota. Bielema’s team finished the year with a 21-17 victory over South Carolina in the Citrus Bowl. It was one heck of a statement from his program.
With that said, Bielema has earned himself a nice payday.
