Shockwaves at UNC: Is Bill Belichick About to Walk Away Before Game One?

Bill Belichick, the NFL icon known for his stoic genius on the sidelines, has taken a wildly unexpected turn—accepting the head coaching job at North Carolina just months ago. But here’s the kicker: instead of headlines about playbooks or game plans, the chatter swirls around his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, whose presence—or lack thereof—has thrown the program into a power struggle that feels way messier than a fourth-quarter blitz. Could the legendary coach actually bail on UNC before scrimmaging a single game? Pablo Torre thinks that’s no idle speculation, especially with June 1 looming—the date when Belichick’s buyout plummets from a staggering $10 million to just $1 million. Is this a classic case of a man trying to hold the reins but being told “Sorry, coach—you’re just an employee here”? And if the whispers about Jordon being “banned” from the facility are true, what does that say about the turf wars behind the scenes? As Belichick prepares for a sit-down with Michael Strahan on “Good Morning America,” one can’t help but wonder—is this the opening chapter to a coaching saga that ends before kickoff? Hang tight, because this drama isn’t just about football—it’s about power, perception, and perhaps, the ultimate call of the game. LEARN MORE.

Meet Bill Belichick’s 24-Year-Old Girlfriend (1:20)

Bill Belichick has only been North Carolina’s head coach for a couple of months.

The legendary NFL head coach accepted the UNC head football coach job in December. Belichick, who reportedly tried to get some NFL head coaching jobs, settled for one at the college level. He’s been making all sorts of headlines lately, thanks to his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson.

Is it possible that, amid all the chaos, Belichick actually leaves North Carolina before coaching a single game?

Pablo Torre, who reported last week that Hudson had essentially been “banned” from the facility, believes that it’s a possibility.

Torre, who works for Meadowlark Media, appeared on The Domonique Foxworth Show on Monday.

“I think there’s a chance, an absolutely real chance that he doesn’t [make it to Week 1 with North Carolina],” Torre said. “And the reason I say that is because even before the Jordon Hudson thing became as public, even before it went from messy backstage to now, obviously messy everywhere, the date that matters the most is June 1st.”

On June 1, Belichick’s buyout drops from $10 million to $1 million, making a split much more possible.

“The question everybody is asking is, are things so dysfunctional behind the scenes when it comes to the power struggle, when it comes to what they are telling Bill to do: don’t have Jordon around anymore. Stop behaving in the way that you have. Basically telling him for the first time, really, that you’re an employee and not the boss of this building in the way that he may have been assuming he would be, then there is the ability for him to get out of it,” he added.

“That’s before you even consider the fact that stuff is so crazy when it comes to how his family feels, how the people around the school feel, that there’s this larger, ‘hey, so coach met this woman when she was 19 years old on an airplane and now she’s kind of running his public image as his girlfriend,’” he said. “Is this something that’s sustainable? Is that fireable? What does he have to do to get fired? These are all active questions.”

Belichick is set to sit down with former NFL star Michael Strahan for a “Good Morning America” interview later this week.

Perhaps we’ll learn more about his situation then.
