Son of NFL Legend Charles Woodson Stuns Scouts with Unexpected Major Scholarship Offer
If you told me a couple of decades ago that Charles Woodson’s legacy would be carried not just in highlight reels but in his own family tree, I’d have nodded and thought, “Well, that makes perfect sense.” The Michigan legend, whose name is practically carved into college football history, now watches as his son, Charles Woodson Jr., begins carving out his own path, scholarship offers and all. It’s fascinating—kind of like watching history try to outdo itself. Can the son of a Hall of Famer and Heisman Trophy winner truly live up to the lofty expectations, or will Texas A&M and others be the proving grounds where he forges a legacy distinct from his dad’s? When your dad’s nickname is “The Chosen One,” the pressure’s real, but so is the potential. What’s undeniable is the high schooler’s journey has just started, and with a message from senior Woodson telling him to “Build your Legend,” it’s clear this next chapter will be one to watch. It’s football royalty in the making, and yeah—the question lingers: Is this the start of a new dynasty or just the opening act? LEARN MORE
In the 1990s, Charles Woodson became one of the best college football players ever en route to a Hall of Fame NFL career. Now his son will get a chance to follow in his footsteps.
On Tuesday, Charles Woodson Jr. announced that he has received a scholarship offer from Texas A&M. It’s the fifth offer he’s received this year and the third from a power conference. He previously received offers from Syracuse and Ole Miss.
“Blessed to receive an offer from Texas A&M!!!” he wrote, tagging a number of coaches and reporters.
But his father saw the message too and offered a message of encouragement for his high schooler: “Build your Legend son.”

247Sports rates Charles Jr. as a three-star safety in the Class of 2027 and the No. 352 recruit in the country. He is the No. 32 safety in the nation and the No. 44 player from the state of Florida.
It’s still very early in the recruiting process, so there’s no real telling where he’ll go. But it will certainly be interesting to see if the University of Michigan winds up making him an offer.
From 1995 to 1997, Charles Woodson was a dominant force for the Wolverines, setting records as a cornerback while putting in work as both a punt returner and a wide receiver where needed. He was about as close to a triple-threat as the college football world had seen in generations.

In 1997, Woodson won the Heisman Trophy, becoming just the third Michigan player in history to claim the prestigious award. That year he helped the Wolverines win the national championship and would be drafted No. 4 overall in the 1998 NFL Draft a few months later.
Woodson would go on to have a fantastic NFL career with the Oakland Raiders and Green Bay Packers, making nine Pro Bowls for the two teams and claiming some huge awards. He was the Rookie of the Year in 1998, Defensive Player of the Year in 2009 and won a Super Bowl with the Packers in 2010.
By the end of his career, he ranked among the best in NFL history.
He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2018 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021.
