Steelers Take a Bold Gamble: Newly Released CB Prospect Joins the Ranks—Can He Surprise Everyone?
Just when you thought the Pittsburgh Steelers’ preseason drama couldn’t get any more intense, here comes a curveball—Kam Alexander’s signing. With injuries hobbling key corners like Joey Porter Jr. and Darius Slay, the Steelers have dipped into the waiver wire late in the game. What are the odds that a recently released Seahawks castoff, who barely made a splash in college, suddenly becomes a Steelers mainstay? It’s the classic underdog scenario—does Alexander have the grit to turn missed tackles and limited stats into a roster spot, or is this just preseason hustle? Either way, this move spotlights the Steelers’ defensive shuffle and raises that age-old question: Can grit and determination actually outweigh pedigree in the NFL’s cutthroat world? Let’s dive into the twists behind Pittsburgh’s latest gamble.

Following several injuries and some bad news, the Pittsburgh Steelers added another cornerback.
Though it’s late in the preseason, he might be there to stay.
“The Steelers are signing former Oregon CB Kam Alexander, whom the [Seattle] Seahawks released last week,” ESPN insider Adam Schefter wrote on X.

Alexander played in Seattle’s preseason opener against the Las Vegas Raiders after spending rookie minicamp and training camp with them.
In his final college season, he had just four combined tackles and one interception in 12 games.
He started his collegiate career at Sam Houston State and transferred to UTSA for his junior season.
He showcased his talents there with 34 combined tackles, 15 passes defended and two interceptions.
For the Steelers, projected starters Joey Porter Jr. and Darius Slay are out with injuries, as is primary backup Cory Trice Jr.
Alexander will have a tough challenge trying to make the roster, just like any undrafted free agent and players signed at this point of the preseason.
But even if he doesn’t survive the final cuts, he should be someone to keep an eye on as a potential practice squad player, given the Steelers’ shortage of options at the position.
