Steve Sarkisian's Blunt Take on Arch Manning: Must-Read Revelations

Ever wonder what it’s like when the torch gets passed in the world of college football? Well, buckle up because the Texas Longhorns are about to ride into a new era with Arch Manning at the helm, but not before we sidetrack for a moment to golf—where a stunning reporter at The Masters is turning heads. Intrigued? [Check out the brief detour into golf’s charm before getting back to the gridiron grit.]

As the dust from Quinn Ewers’ remarkable stint settles, the spotlight is on young Manning, who’s not just carrying the weight of a legendary last name but also the hopes and dreams of an entire Longhorn fandom. I’ve seen my share of quarterback transitions, and let me tell you, this one feels…different.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian, a man who knows a thing or two about nurturing talent, didn’t hold back his praises during spring practice. “You can watch him throw…,” he mused with the kind of seasoned insight only years on the sideline can bring. “There’s something unique about Arch,” which is not just coach speak but a real, tangible quality.

But what really strikes a chord with me is not just Manning’s arm talent or his ability to take a hit and still make a play. It’s this underlying, almost effortless leadership he exudes; it’s like he was born for this. Players gravitate towards him, not because of the name “Manning” on the back of his jersey, but because of who he is at his core.

Last season, in a mere 10 games, Manning threw for 939 yards and nine touchdowns, adding four rushing touchdowns and 108 yards on the ground, painting a picture of a dual threat that’s developing before our very eyes.

And as Sarkisian pointed out, Manning isn’t just riding the emotional rollercoaster of public opinion. He’s staying level, using that consistency in his approach, his play, and his ability to lift others.

So here we stand on the precipice of what could be a transformative season. Will Manning’s consistency, leadership, and athletic ability carry the Longhorns? We’ll all find out next season when he takes the field for Texas.

The Texas football program is set to enter a highly anticipated new era this season with Arch Manning as the starting quarterback. Manning will take over after Quinn Ewers led the team over the last two years, sending Texas to the College Football Playoff.

Manning’s debut as the full-time starter has been highly anticipated since he first signed with Texas, by both fans and the Longhorns’ coaching staff.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian spoke on his new quarterback during spring practice, and he had nothing but praise for the young signal-caller.

“I think there’s something that’s unique about Arch,” Sarkisian said in an interview with ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

“You can watch him throw and you see when you get up on him in person, man, he’s a bigger guy than maybe people think. When you watch him throw, the arm talent and the deep ball is there. Then you watch him move and you’re like, wait, this guy’s a better athlete than I thought.”

Sarkisian also brought up another quality that Manning will have the chance to display this season.

“There’s an infectious leadership that he has, that I don’t want to say is unintentional because he intentionally leads. You can feel that. But the unintentional leadership ability he has, players gravitate to him, they want to be around him,” Sarkisian said about the young quarterback.

“They like him for who he is, not for the name on the back of his jersey. And I think that’s something that he provides. He’s a fiery guy. He enjoys playing the game.”

Manning appeared in 10 games for Texas last season, throwing for 939 yards and nine touchdowns. Manning added 4 rushing touchdowns and 108 yards on the ground, showing his ability as a dual threat quarterback.

“He got two career starts. He started as our quarterback in the first SEC game in the history of the school,” Sarkisian said.

“And in the end, I think he understands he is not riding the emotional roller coaster of the opinions of others and staying [with a] level of consistency in his approach, in his play, in his ability to pick people up. Easier said than done when you’re not in the real fire of it all.”

We’ll see Manning’s consistency, his leadership and his athletic ability on display next season when he takes to the field for the Longhorns.
