Texas A&M's Stunning Rise in AP Top 25 Sparks Questions: Can They Keep Climbing?

Nobody expected the Texas A&M Aggies to not only keep their perfect record intact but to do so in a fashion that’s starting to turn heads across college football. After grinding out a 16-10 win over a tenacious Auburn squad at Kyle Field, the Aggies find themselves with a 4-0 start for the first time since 2016—an achievement that comes with a fresh boost in their AP Top 25 ranking, the highest they’ve seen since 2022. It wasn’t all smooth sailing—plenty of self-inflicted mistakes threatened to derail their quest, but an ironclad defense refused to let their dreams slip away amid a whirlwind of upsets shaking up the season. While some might say their jump up the rankings was more about chaos around the league than their own standout play, the bottom line remains: a win’s a win, and Texas A&M is making its presence felt as the college football landscape shifts beneath our feet. The Texas A&M Aggies (4-0, 1-0 SEC) outlasted a gritty Auburn squad (3-2, 0-2 SEC) in a 16-10 victory Saturday afternoon at Kyle Field. This marks the first time since 2016 that the Aggies have started 4-0 and earned their highest AP Top 25 ranking since 2022.

In a week brimming with upsets, Texas A&M managed to buck the trend thanks to a historic performance from its defense. Despite a barrage of self-inflicted errors that nearly cost them the game, the Aggies still found a way to emerge victorious.

To be completely candid, if not for the slew of top-ten upsets, Texas A&M likely wouldn’t have climbed four spots—they simply didn’t do enough to justify that kind of leap. However, with that confession, they did the most important thing… they won. College football has once again proven wildly unpredictable, and we’re only five weeks into the season. After Week 4, the polls look drastically different from what they did just a few weeks ago.

The most dramatic rise came from Ole Miss, which vaulted nine spots to land at No. 4. Meanwhile, Florida State suffered the steepest drop, falling from No. 8 to No. 18, followed closely by LSU’s tumble from No. 4 to No. 13.

After jumping four spots to No. 17 in the US LBMCoachesPoll, Texas A&M is ranked at No. 6 in the latest AP Top 25 poll heading into Week 6.
