The Ravens’ Secret Weapon: Could This Underrated Kicker Change Their Season?

Ever wonder if a team as fiercely proud as the Baltimore Ravens could stumble in the kicker department after the legendary Justin Tucker finally took his leave? Well, buckle up—because rookie Tyler Loop isn’t just marching in; he’s storming the field with an almost uncanny precision. Picture this: a perfect 7-for-7 in practice including a monstrous 55-yard field goal, leaving fans wondering if the Ravens just unearthed their next hidden gem. After all, filling Tucker’s cleats is no small feat—especially with the drama that shadowed the end of his tenure. But judging by the Ravens’ bold move to cut competition and ride with Loop, they’re trusting this sixth-round pick to keep the tradition alive and kicking. Will Loop’s early fire translate when the lights blaze brightest? Only time will tell, but one thing’s clear—the Ravens aren’t just hoping; they’re betting big.

The Baltimore Ravens are used to having an elite kicker.

Even though Justin Tucker is gone, they’re likely to keep that tradition alive.

As pointed out by Jamison Hensley, via NFL on ESPN, rookie kicker Tyler Loop went 7-for-7 in practice, even making a 55-yard field goal.

Loop recently made all 11 of his field goal attempts in front of fans during a training camp event at M&T Bank Stadium.

The Ravens selected him in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and he had some huge shoes to fill.

They released Tucker after a down season and accusations of sexual misconduct. He later received a 10-week NFL suspension.

The Ravens look quite confident in Loop, as they haven’t brought any competition and released the only other kicker on the roster.

The team reportedly worked out more than 30 kickers before drafting Loop.

Of course, it’s one thing to dominate in practice and an entirely different thing to do so when it counts, and rookie kickers have struggled multiple times in the past.

The Ravens enter this season as one of the strongest teams in the NFL, but they can’t afford to leave points on the field, especially against AFC North opponents in low-scoring affairs.

They are hopeful Loop is up to the challenge.
