Leading the Three Lions out last weekend and appointed England’s permeant captain ahead of their EURO U21 tournament, James McAtee has very much been the poster boy of Carsley’s squad this summer.
However, while Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola might have been filled with praise for the 22-year-old over the past 12 months, McAtee has tumbled down the former Barcelona bosses pecking order at the Etihad.
With the Sky Blues already breaking the bank this summer after recruiting both Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki, the England U21 skipper will find regular first-team minutes hard to come by next season and it appears that all parties have accepted that a permeant move away is best.
