The Shocking Flaw in ESPN’s New Top 25 That’s Dividing College Football Fans

Spring’s fading out, summer’s about to kick in, and college football fans – well, you know what that means. The hallowed halls of academia will quiet down for a bit, but the gridiron heat is only just revving up. Ohio State sits comfy at No. 1, despite losing a chunk of their star power, thanks to Ryan Day’s magic and a couple of standout returnees bound for preseason All-America glory. Meanwhile, Texas—ranked No. 2—has got the internet buzzing, but maybe for all the wrong reasons. Are the Longhorns truly ready to hang with the champs, or is this just another case of hype riding on Arch Manning’s famous last name? With a season-opening clash between these two looming, one wonders: will Texas prove the doubters wrong, or will Ohio State remind everyone why they’re kings of the college football mountain? Buckle up—the answers come in hot starting August 30th! LEARN MORE.

College football’s spring schedule is in the books and before you know it, the regular season will be here.

Spring semester is wrapping up across the country. Student athletes will be gone for summer vacation, before reporting back later in August. Soon, college football programs across the country will be starting fall camp.

Heading into May, ESPN updated its Top 25 rankings. Ohio State, the defending national champions, come in at No. 1 in the country. The Buckeyes lost a lot, including quarterback Will Howard, running backs TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins, and a lot on defense.

But ESPN remains high on Ryan Day’s team.

“The Buckeyes have arguably the top offensive and defensive players returning in college football in wide receiver Jeremiah Smith and safety Caleb Downs. Both standouts figure to be on every preseason All-America team after playing massive roles during Ohio State’s national championship run through the playoff,” ESPN wrote.

However, it’s the team at No. 2 in the rankings that has some fans upset.

Texas came in at No. 2 overall in the rankings. Are the Longhorns really that good?

“Steve Sarkisian centered his Texas rebuild around the need for ‘big humans,’ and the Longhorns’ offensive and defensive lines were strengths during their past two playoff runs. Both will see wholesale makeovers this year, with one full-time starter returning on the OL and just two scholarship interior defensive lineman coming back. There is a lot of talent, of course, but not much time for the newcomers to grow up, with a road trip to Ohio State kicking off the season and the SEC schedule awaiting,” ESPN wrote.

Many college football fans believe that Texas is being overrated due to Arch Manning.

“They are overrated,” one fan wrote.

“Texas is so damn overrated it’s laughableeeeee,” one fan added.

“Texas always overrated,” one fan added.

“Anyone else think arch manning is overrated at this point in time? Ain’t no way one knows what he’s really about except having the last name of manning. Got y’all putting him at first overall in next year’s draft where he might not even declare for,” one fan added.
